VRPS 2021: RE-Set…RE-Build!
Hello VRPS Members & Leaders,
Spring has Sprung…welcome all new members, joining the Society for the first time! In bloom this season is a NEW training opportunity to further engage and educate our members…the REAL Talk Summer Series. This series will ignite conversations about P&R hot topics and trends. A total of five sessions will presented May-September, facilitating REAL Talk about each topic. I am excited to open this opportunity to all parks & recreation professionals for $25/webinar (CEUs available for purchase) or Bundle Package for $99 (CEUs included in this price). Registration will open by April 30. I hope that you all will spread the word and support this new initiative!

·        Tell Our Story:  The E-updates and the VRPS Magazine are vehicles to further “tell our story.” Submit an article for the summer magazine by May 5 to Amy-Jo Hendrix, AHendrix@viennava.gov. You can even submit an article and get CEU credit for article submission.
·     Leadership Updates:
Congratulations to Debbie Woodbury, MPA, CPRP, CPM, Regional Program Director of City of Alexandria, Recreation, Parks and Cultural Activities on her new appointment to the Professional Education/Certification Committee. Debbie fills a vacant committee position due the resignation and transition of committee member Shannon Moore, Recreation Supervisor of Virginia Beach Parks & Recreation.
Thank you and farewell to Jane Shelhorse, Director of Fredericksburg Parks, Recreation and Public Facilities and two-term Board member for her committed service to the VRPS Board of Directors. In preparation for retirement, Jane resigned her Board position, effective April 1. She will be missed for her energy, humor, great ideas and wisdom. Our Board appreciates all her contributions.

Justin Bullock Named Director of Greene County Department of Parks & Recreation
Bullock has a bachelor’s degree in Recreation and Tourism Studies from Old Dominion University and a master’s degree in Public Policy-Public Administration from Liberty University. He is a Certified Parks and Recreation Professional, Certified Youth Sports Administrator, and current member on the VRPS Board of Directors.
He has actively worked in various Parks & Recreation Departments since 2009 in Dinwiddie, Chesterfield, Fredericksburg and Louisa.
“I know that recreation enhances peoples’ lives, and I truly believe that it is an important service that we provide. I look forward to serving the citizens of Greene County and making a positive impact in the community.”

Speaker Submissions for Annual Conference 2021
The Virginia Recreation and Parks Society is seeking dynamic speakers to lead educational sessions to be presented at the 2021 VRPS Annual Conference. The Conference will be held October 24-26, 2021 at the Hotel Madison in Harrisonburg, VA. If you have a passion for sharing your knowledge, apply today.
The deadline to submit your proposal is June 15, 2021. Submission requirements can be found online by visiting www.vrps.com.
