A Message from the President
To all VRPS members,

Starting April 20, 2020, the VRPS office will be closed for each Monday until June 1st, 2020. The staff will be taking vacation time during that period in an effort to reduce liability for the Society. Offices will be open Tuesdays through Fridays each week during that period.

Also, please disregard the April 17, 2020 deadline for Nominations and Elections. Given the current situation concerning the pandemic, at the April 16, 2020, Board of Directors Meeting, the Board made the unanimous decision to suspend statewide elections until further notice. This will enable those struggling with the process to focus on duties that take precedent in their lives now, care of their family and work. All officers for the Board, Resource Groups, and Service Areas will continue in their roles until nominations and elections resume. If you have questions about the decision, please let me know. We will be in contact when it is time to proceed.
Thank you,
Dan Smith, CPRP
2020 VRPS President
2020 Virginia General Assembly Veto Session Update
Please follow the link below for a brief update from the Veto Session and some recommendations going forward with your budget process. The budget bills still have to be signed but HB29 (including public meetings language) takes effect as soon as the Governor signs it.
While the reconvened General Assembly session was “one for the history books,” we want to provide you an update and some key takeaways as it pertains to the local government budgeting process and ongoing operations in  the face of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Everything can or will be on the table when it comes to the special legislative session later this summer. The more prepared and proactive a local government can be in the face of what is likely going to a rather harsh reality will bode well, or at least better than nothing. Your General Assembly delegation members are in a unique position to be helpful and promote options for localities. The sooner they have this information, the better armed they will be to promote a given strategy.
Please let us know if you have any questions.
