This position implements and supervises the professional planning, design, improvement and implementation of public sports management, athletic programs, and other recreational services. Supervision is exercised over part-time and temporary staff, including Recreation Instructors, Recreation Assistants, Scorekeepers, and volunteers.  It is a professional position requiring comprehensive and extensive knowledge of all aspects of sports management principles and practices as related to both programming and athletic turf maintenance.  Its purpose is to provide quality athletic programs that invite residents and visitors to use our city's athletic amenities while establishing and maintaining sustainable practices that encourage environmental sensitivity and stewardship.

Additional duties include:

Assists in the planning, coordination and implementation of recreation programs; supervises and evaluates programs

Recruits, interviews, hires, supervises and evaluates part-time program staff

Evaluates programs and make recommendations regarding their continuation

Coordinates and plans recreation services with schools, community organizations, church groups, recreation centers and other agencies

Determines programs content and scope; sets goals and evaluates effectiveness

Assists in the preparation of and makes recommendations regarding budgets; monitors expenditures and allocates funds

Promotes programs and services through news releases, flyers, and other available media resources

Purchases materials and supplies as requested and/or required

Leads programs, activities or community events including summer programs; assists with the registration process

Provides for the safe operation of recreation centers, other facilities and equipment

Schedules, coordinates and ensures the preparation of recreation centers and other facilities for use

Conducts research and writes reports regarding recreational services

Serves on committees and maintains relationships with leaders in the community

Assists in preparation of part-time payroll

Supervision may be exercised over volunteers, instructors and part-time staff.  Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

Required Experience

One to two years related experience and/or training in recreation and leisure services; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
