Richmond's Department of Parks, Recreation and Community Facilities (PRCF) mission is to provide exceptional recreation and leisure programs to enhance the overall quality of life for the citizens and visitors to the City of Richmond and strive to preserve, protect, maintain and improve all of its natural resources, parkland, community facilities and recreational opportunities for current and future generations.
PRCF is home to more than 169 parks, open spaces, athletic fields, playgrounds and tot lots. We oversee 21 community centers while providing a full spectrum of recreational services and programs for all of Richmond's citizens. Included in the park system is the James River Parks System which has been rated as the top municipal park in the United States. Additionally the Department has in its inventory more than 90 monuments/statues/memorials, nine decorative fountains, Dogwood Dell, the Carillon and seven cemeteries.
