Hit the Bulls Eye with the New Discover Archery Training Grant

NRPA is proud to offer the Discover Archery professional development grant in partnership with the Easton Foundations, for park and recreation agencies with existing archery programs. The Discover Archery grant is designed to advance the growth of archery and provide park and recreation agencies the needed resources and expertise to develop and expand archery programs to benefit their communities.

With this grant you will receive:
  • Five days of specialized archery training and certification at either of the two nation's premier archery training centers located in South Dakota or Florida (includes training, travel, accommodations, and meals for all five days)
  • $5,000 worth of specialized archery equipment

Funding for Volunteer Groups Serving Public Lands

The National Environmental Education Foundation, with funding from Toyota Motor Sales USA, Inc. offers Every Day Grants to support nonprofit organization volunteers working to improve and encourage responsible use of public land sites in the United States.These organizations are sometimes known as "friends group."
To be eligible, applicants must be a 501(c)(3) nonprofit or have an eligible fiscal agent; have been in existence for at least two years; be a community-based organization whose mission is focused on serving a public land site in the United States and the improvement and responsible use of that site (this includes groups that serve more than one site, such as a regional group of parks); and have an established collaborative relationship with a local public land site (including federal, state, regional, county, city, and other local public land areas) for at least one year.
Successful applicants will describe a needed,well-planned, realistic, and replicable project; demonstrate that the project will contribute to the long-term sustainability of the organization; and demonstrate that the project will strengthen the organization's ability to serve the public land site.

 

American Academy of Dermatology Invites Applications for Shade Structure Grant Program

The American Academy of Dermatology's Shade Structure Grant Program annually awards grants for the purchase of permanent shade structures designed to provide shade and ultraviolet (UV) ray protection for outdoor areas used by children and teens. The AAD also provides a permanent sign to be displayed near the shade structure warning against the dangers of excessive sun exposure.
Examples of outdoor locations that are eligible for grant funds include but are not limited to playgrounds, pool decks, ballfield dugouts, eating areas, etc.
To be eligible, applicants must be a nonprofit organization or public school that primarily serves children and teens 18 years of age or younger; demonstrate an ongoing commitment to sun safety and skin cancer awareness by having a sun safety/skin cancer awareness program in place for at least one year prior to application; and be recommended by an AAD member dermatologist. (Member dermatologists can be located using the "Find a Dermatologist" tool available at the AAD Web site.)
Grants of up to $8,000 will be awarded. The number of grants will depend on the availability of funding.

U.S. Soccer Foundation Invites Applications for Social Innovation Fund Subgrant Program
The U.S. Soccer Foundation is offering the opportunity for organizations around the United States to apply for the 2012 Soccer for Success Social Innovation Fund Subgrant. The 2012 Soccer for Success SIF Subgrant will support the replication of Soccer for Success, the foundation's free after-school youth development soccer program, which was designed to combat childhood obesity and promote healthy lifestyles for children in low-income urban communities.

The subgrant program seeks to invest in nonprofit organizations serving economically disadvantaged youth in grades K-8.
Grant awards will range from $100,000 to $300,000 based on the number of children served and applicant's ability to provide matching funds. Grants will be funded for two years.
The application window for the 2012 Soccer for Success SIF Subgrant cycle opened on October 27, 2011, and will close on December 22, 2011.

Applications Invited for National ARAMARK Building Community Innovation Awards for Workforce Readiness Programs
ARAMARK Building Community is ARAMARK's signature philanthropic and volunteer program designed to enrich the lives of disadvantaged families by strengthening the capacity of community centers to engage residents and community leaders to create neighborhood change and lasting opportunity for residents. The ARAMARK Building Community Innovation Awards will present a total of $100,000 in 2012 to community centers showing innovation in workforce readiness programs, and will provide selected organizations with a platform to share best practices as well as replicate and scale programs that are successful at putting people back in the workforce. The Peter B. Goldberg ARAMARK Building Community Executive Leadership Award will honor a local executive director and support their community center with a $40,000 grant. (Deadline: November 30, 2011.)
Three $20,000 programmatic grants will recognize excellence in workforce readiness — preparing people for, and connecting them to jobs — and will support future program execution in the following categories: preparation for growth industries; skills training for targeted populations; and business ventures as training ground. Members of the United Neighborhood Centers of America [Communities in Schools and William Byrd Community House] and the Alliance for Children and Families [see list below] may apply for the workforce program innovation awards. Only one program per organization per year will be considered for a programmatic award. A program must have taken place during 2011 but may be a year-long and/or a seasonal module; it must be scheduled to recur in 2012. (Deadline: January 12, 2012).
